"Email capture and forced registration - best practices"

There are three built-in email "capture" systems for website visitor information collection. This article covers two of them. The third, a promotional form, is also available. Both types discussed in this article offer a "pass-through" system that can be used in social media advertising.

The first method is an "Email Capture" system". This system once turned on, will present a form to the website visitor at specified times, that asks for basic contact information. Should the User choose to not provide this information, they are disallowed from viewing more listings during their current visit (session).

When a website visitor supplies the requested information. The information is stored in your "Leads" area of the Admin. An email is also sent to you, if you wish, that notifies you that someone completed an Email Capture form.

Email capture has two "intercept" points. These are the points where this "capture" can happen and the form presents to the website visitor. The first is "Capture On Result". This setting allows the website visitor to perform a search, but they must complete the form to see Any results.

The second intercept setting is "Capture on Detail". This setting allows the website visitor to see the results page of their search but requests contact information when a "Detail" of a listing is visited.

A "What To Do" selection is also offered. This selection allows you to choose what type of action you wish to perform. "Email Capture" or "Required Registration". We covered "Email Capture" above. Let's look at "Required Registration".  This option allows you to present a Registration Form to your website visitor instead of an Email Capture form.

The difference is, "Email Capture" does just that. It captures an email address and perhaps a Name and Phone number. This information is then retained in the Leads area.

A "Required Registration" means the website visitor will be creating an account on your website. With this account, they can "like" listings. They have a form to easily contact their agent. They cn create a "Poll" of their favorite listings to share on Social Media. They can set up an automatic "drip" listing of listings that they like to be sent to their email. They can create Testimonials that post to your website. You, as their agent, have access to this information via the "Customer" link in the admin area.

Something to be mindful of is that email capture and forced registration will stop search engine "bots" from being able to index your website's listings. A solution to this situation is to turn off the capture system every other week, for a few days to a week. This allows the search engine bots to access the listing areas of your website unhindered. This allows them to add those pages to their index and return them as search results when required to do so by a potential customer to your website.

Sometimes, you want to share a listing on Social Media and you don't want to scare folks away by showing them a capture form immediately upon their arrival at your website. This is where the "Detail Pages to Show: " selection item comes in to play. You can select up to 9 "free" views before the capture form actually displays. This allows you to share your listing to your favorite social media without the fear of "bouncing" all those that click the link.
